Our Long Jing offers a rich, sweet and deep flavour that rivals the nutty and flavourful Long Jing teas from Xihu, but at a fraction of the price. This tea has all the characteristics you would expect from a true Long Jing - pan-roasted for a nutty and deep aroma that transitions into a lovely sweet and lively finish.
Our Long Jing (Dragonwell Green) is made from a delicious small-leaf variety (Xiao Ye Fuding), harvested in March from 40-year-old bushes in the Xinchang area of Zhejiang. This is China's most famous green tea. Although the trend is towards "fresher" flavors, tea enthusiasts know that the typical "roasted bean" is an essential component of a quality Long Jing. This tea from the Xiao Ye Fuding cultivar perfectly balances the bright and uplifting aromas of fresh green tea with the deep roasted bean flavor of traditional Qun Ti Zhong Long Jing. The sweetness in the finish is something special!
Genuine Long Jing tea (also known as Dragonwell) must be grown in Zhejiang Province. If grown anywhere else, it is considered an imitation, like champagne. Every year we taste many samples of Long Jing to find the best harvest of the year. In recent years, we have chosen tea from areas outside West Lake because we believe it is of much higher quality compared to the tea from West Lake.
Our Long Jing is a Pre Qing Ming tea, harvested in March, which offers a lightness and delicacy combined with a powerful aroma and flavour. Pre Qing Ming tea from Xi Hu (West Lake) is incredibly expensive and while it is often an excellent tea, we believe our selected tea field surpasses it in flavour without having to pay the high price for the Xi Hu name.
For this tea, we suggest that you try the traditional Chinese Gong FU style to brew your tea. The idea behind this technology is to use greater proportions of tea leaves for water and very short break times. By using more tea leaves and having very short brewing, you only manage to extract parts of the entire taste spectrum. The tea can then be enjoyed in so -called "sections", which gives a much more nuanced experience. As the taste develops gradually and it is much more leaves, this contributes to a much more intense taste than when brewing in Western style.
